We started Loo in swimming lessons a couple weeks ago. I wish I could report that it's going swimmingly. Had I posted after the first couple times, without procrastinating, I would have. You'd now be reading a glowing report on how cool it was to take the babe swimming. Because it was, the first couple times. But now--Surprise! The last couple times he melted down and we ended up leaving the class early.
I'm quite honestly shocked! The kid's LOVED capital L O V E D water ever since birth. I've been "swimming" him in the bathtub since he was a newborn. (We never even used that infant tub thing.) And he loved it. He'd lay back in the water all relaxed and bliss out. Here! Here's proof!!
one-month-old Loo chillaxin' in the water...
And now, well, shoot. I wonder if we missed that "window" where babies just take to water no problem up til 6 months. Because he just turned 6 months and now he's just not into it like he used to be. Oh, he likes it OK. And he's a total kicker and when he kicks it splashes and he thinks that's groovy and squeals and enjoys that part. But he's not keen on laying back and letting the water up over his ears like he used to be. Now he shrugs his shoulders up around his ears when the water hits them and looks at me like "what the hell...!?"
The swim teacher said babies just do this and you have to work through it. Yeah, I guess. What I really need to work through is my disappointment that he's just not swim baby of the century. I really thought he was and I don't mind admitting I thought it was really cool.
But they change a lot. They grow out of stuff so fast. And INTO stuff! Damn, do they. More on that later.
Well, we're gonna keep plugging at the swimming thing. I'll keep you posted.
